Taking New Steps!

Look...we finally have our front steps!!! Now we just need to get Waylon working on the railing.

Dry wall is up! This is the view as you walk in the front door.

Master bedroom ceiling.

Master bath..

Mud/laundry room...I am afraid this will be the most USED part of the house.

View from the corner of the dining area towards the front of the house.

Kitchen...we are to meet with another cabinet maker this Saturday. This one says he can have them done by November...thank goodness.

Upstairs playroom. Looking from the "library".

Wow...what a suprise when I went by the house and saw "real" walls and got to walk up "real" steps! With football practice every night, we don't get by the house like we did. I am getting VERY excited, the only problem is, I know that my turn of being overwhelmed with decisions is about to begin...

Happy 35th Birthday Wesley!!!

Bricks to be laid today!

Insulation in the ceiling.

Insulation downstairs ready to be finished today! With dry wall starting tomorrow.

Insulation going up the steps!

The upstairs insulation is done!

We have water!!! It actually has a really good taste!

Close up of the Old Charleston Brick we are using.
Well, the boys are back to school and we almost have survived a full week. The hard part is that we started football last night and the boys are exhausted. Today, for Wesley's birthday, we will be back at the football field, but we should see some really neat things at the house like brick started and insulation finished..They are planning to have the dry wall finished by Sunday. The next panic is kitchen cabinets. We thought that was the first decision we had made, but our orginal cabinet maker is not going to be able to do them, so we have gotten a quote from another, but he can't start for another month and then said it would take 2 more months to build them...So we will see. The other problem is I have to have a stove with a down draft and there is only one company...Jenn Air...a little more than what I wanted to spend on a stove...I guess there goes another chair!

Heating and Air!

The house with the new porch railings. We really didn't want them, but code said we had to have them since we are so high off the ground.

Closer view of the railings

Heating and air stuff...

Our house is trashed! Wesley announced that we will have a cleaning this weekend.

The vents are going in.

Master shower and bath...I LOVE my tub.

Wesley chose my tub and I LOVE it. He said it wasn't big enough for him, but he wasn't planning on using it anyway. It is PERFECT for me! I can't wait to try it out! By the way, did I mention I LOVED my tub!!!

The boys shower is ready for water!
We are busy with getting ready to go back to school (the boys start on Monday) and the house is busy getting heat and air. With our 95+ degree weather we have been having the air can't come fast enough. It sounds like the dry wallers will come next week. We also have selected our brick layer, now we just need to clean the brick (we are using old brick) so if you want something to do, let us know! The bad news is our cabinet maker has decided he isn't going to be able to make the cabinets, so I guess we will move on to plan B (however, we don't have a plan B). Other than that, I am really excited about how things are going. However, I have hit the point that I am ready to get in. I am tired of dreaming and looking, I am ready to start living and enjoying!!!

Back To The Blog

Our door is always open for friends and family!

Our back doors...I had to do a lot of talking to get these...but I LOVE them!!!

Barn siding waiting to be cleaned and put up in the "great room".

The beams from my grandparents barn in OH and our toilets are in the boxes!

All ready for the electric inspection!

Ready for my washer and dryer!

Our new front door..Ready for stain and hardware! This was one of the best choices we have made.

Shower upstairs (with the seat on the correct side).

It is amazing how life can get in the way of building a house. Summer is flying by and between our schedule and the boys schedule there just doesn't seem to be any extra time for anything. I am in Hilton Head for work this week and finally had a few minutes (and a good internet connection) that I could update the blog. This should be an exciting week since we finally got the doors up. They should finish the siding and hopefully the plumber will finally finish so we can past our inspection for electic and plumbing so we can move on to heating and air and dry wall!!

THE PERFECT SUMMER DAY

One of the most disappointing things as a home haunter is not being able to get out to visit other home haunts as Halloween approaches.
I've always been intrigued by other home haunts and try to make it a point to visit as many as I can before Halloween night and meet up with the creators , but most home haunts are only open on Halloween night.
This makes it impossible for most home haunters to visit each others displays because were too busy working on our own events, so we have to resort to seeing photos and videos on the Internet of each others creative displays.

Paul & Kim from The Boneyard Bargains have found a way to recreate this excitement during the warm summer months. Every June for the past five years they have hosted an event called SCAREFEST that brings all home haunters together.

Scarefest allows you to:

  • Meet other home haunters (Ontario Haunter's Club).
  • Learn new ideas & trade secrets from the haunt industry.
  • Purchase Halloween props or swap.
  • Participate in a contest for best homemade prop-static and best homemade prop animated.
  • Walk through haunt with props for sale.
  • Purchase raffle tickets for amazing Halloween prizes.
  • Enjoy a great BBQ and refreshments
  • See attached photos.

I was so happy to be around people who are as obsessed about Halloween & home haunting as I am.

Thanks again to Paul & Kim for "The Perfect Summer Day".

Roof is almost done!

Should finish the roof today!

Almost have another side of the house finished.

Started the siding on the back porch! Can't finish until we pick out the doors.

Plumber has started and he will be ready for sinks, toilets, showers, baths on Thursday...to bad we don't have them picked out yet!
Things are coming right along. The builder said he will be finished in two more months if we don't hold him up...I guess he was giving us a hint to get on the stick!
