BLACK CHRISTMAS

Black Christmas is one of my favorite horror movies of all time and I’m proud to say it was shot here in my home town “Toronto”. And, no, I'm not talking about the awful remake. I'm talking about the 1974 classic, directed by Bob Clark that was way ahead of it’s time.

It’s one of the greatest slasher movies ever made, and if a movie can still be creepy after 35 years, it's obviously doing something right. If you haven't seen this movie and you're a fan of horror, you owe it to yourself to see it.

Black Christmas is one of the more disturbing films for it's generation. A group of sorority sisters are harassed, hunted down and then one by one murdered by a mysterious killer who contacts them through a series of obscene phone calls over the Christmas break. However, unknown to the girls, the killer isn't calling from the outside. He's in their house!

Black Christmas is a tense film full of grizzly, yet subtle, murders and decent acting performances by a strange collection of mismatched actors that aren't known for appearing in horror films, including Olivia Hussey, Margot Kidder, Andrea Martin, John Saxon and Keir Dullea.

Furthermore, the use of Christmas music and decorations, as well as the bleak snowy cityscapes add an eerie juxtaposition to the horror presented to the audience.

This Christmas pass over It's a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story and pour some egg nog and turn off all the lights and get ready to scare the yuletide joy right out of yourself with this freakishly delightful holiday fare.

ZOMBIES ATTACK SANTA

ZOMBIE CHRISTMAS CAROLS

Just imagine a group of zombies going door-to-door singing undead carols in their best rotting choir costumes.

Imagine the look on the unsuspecting homeowners faces when they realize that the nice singers on the porch are actually the walking dead.

If a thought like that doesn’t get you in the Christmas spirit, nothing will!

Bring on winter...the heating unit is in!

The heating and air units are in, along with the hot water heater..
Not quite the view as you walk in the front door, but close..the refrigerator was in my way to get the best view!

Fireplace is in...should finish bricking around it today!

Barn siding is finished.

Wesley picked out these ceiling fans for the back porch...the boys wanted them in their room.

The ceiling fan that the boys ended up with.

Close up of the fireplace..

We are getting closer! I have to laugh because Wesley and I have gotten along extremely well with the building of the house..however, now that we have started thinking about packing up the house, things are getting a little stressful! Tonight is the night we start...all prayers are welcomed!

Halloween 2009

Our 2009 Halloween was our biggest and spookiest year to date. We had over 3,500 Trick r Treaters visit us on Halloween night, in addition to approximately 600 children from the Carville Mills Public School and Kids Come First Day Care, not to mention the hundreds of families that came during the week leading up to Halloween.

This year we had great media attention; we were featured on Party Mamas Reality TV Show (or in my case Party Papa), Global TV, and to top it all off, we won City TV’s & Rogers Pumpkin Patrol Best Haunted House contest, winning the grand prize of $500.00 which we donated to Sick Kids Foundation.

We were extremely thankful to our sponsors; Cadbury and Old Dutch who generously donated Halloween Candy & Potato Chips. Moreover, we would like to thank everyone who visited and made a donation to Sick Kids Hospital, this year we raised $3,224.00

The money raised in donations will go towards a new special Halloween fund that we have created for children who are in treatment at Sick Kids Hospital during Halloween; our goal is to provide children with costumes and Halloween candy to encourage the holiday spirit.

Lastly a heart felt thank you goes out to our family and friends for all their help and support with the set up and tear down of our display and the York Regional Police for showing up on Halloween night and controlling the flow of traffic after we brought it to a stand still on our street.

Unlce Waylon is the BEST!!!

Look what Wesley's brother Waylon did...
They are up against the wall right now, but the plans are to install them tomorrow! They are just amazing! I can't wait to see what he does for the front steps!

With all the siding the house is really starting to change!

Here is a better picture of the corner kitchen cupboard...I finally figured out how to use Garrett's camera!

Finished the brick for the bottom of the fireplace..

This is your view when you walk in the front door!

A little closer

Carpet is done in all the rooms...
Closets are all done and organized!

Barn siding is going up and really makes the house feel like ours!

OK...so I was trying to use Garrett's camera and took video instead of pics...sorry. The picture above is more of the barn siding and the picture below is they have installed the first of the kitchen cabinets!

Well, things are coming right along...it is amazing how the details make a house your home. It is really starting to feel like it is ours..Electicians and plumbers are suppose to finish this weekend and it looks like another 2 weeks and we will be moving in (counter tops or no counter tops I might add...) Guess I better start packing!

HALLOWEEN HOUSE CONTEST

CityTV & Rogers Pumpkin Patrol team up this Halloween to created a contest in the GTA for the Best Decorated Halloween House. The winner would receive a $500.00 cheque for the charity of their choice and would be featured on-air on CityNews @ 6:00 pm on Halloween night.

So my family and I decided to enter my home haunt into the contest. I was the first house to be featured on CityNews at 6:00 PM on Monday October 26th, 2009 with Michael Kuss.

I continued to watch the other entries religiously throughout the week, and was convinced that I lost because I was competing against other creative home haunters. To my surprise I received a call late on Friday night, informing me that I had won the contest.

I was so excited to be able to donate the $500.00 to Sick Kids Hospital along with all the other cash donations we received during the last week of October. But more importantly it's rewarding to receive the recognition for all the hard work that went into creating this home haunt every year for the community to enjoy.

HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13TH

Happy Friday the 13th, everyone. Are you scared? Well, you paraskevidekatriaphobics (you poor saps afflicted with a morbid, irrational fear of Friday the 13th) should be.

Centuries ago, the witches of the north observed the sabbath by gathering in a cemetery in the shadows of the moon. On one gathering, the Norse goddess, Freya (the origin of "Friday"), came down from her sanctuary in Valhalla and appeared before the group, who numbered 12. Freya gave them one of her cats, completing what came to be known as a witches' coven. Ever since then, a perfectly-numbered coven has comprised exactly 13.

BTW, I'll be posting information and pictures shortly of my 2009 Halloween!

A little more..

Can you tell what looks different?

The porch and two of the dormers are painted!
Don't worry, it took me a minute to figure it out.

Wood on the steps!

Another view!

Started putting door knobs on!
No free tours of the house (but you can schedule one anytime!)...we have locks on the door!

November...

Our "agricultural shed" is almost complete.

Side porch and steps.

Back porch steps..

Yep...you guessed it we now have toilets!

Our weekly trip to LOWES brought home lights, fans, door knobs and paint!

View of the fireplace when you come in the front door.

Masterbedroom...trim all painted, just need some carpet.

Master bath tile all finished...

Master bath shower...I wanted a seat, but a bucket wasn't quite what I was thinking.

Upstairs trim work is completed.

Well. it doesn't look like we will make our November 7th move in date...but we are getting closer!
